DROPS Summary – Allen Smith, DROPS

Allen provided a brief summary of DROPS Global activities and administration. Highlights included:

STEERING COMMITTEE
Broadening scope of current Steering Committee to establish a Global Steering Committee to focus on strategic direction (current Committee to share roles with North Sea Chapter)
New Terms of Reference drafted and invitations to join the Chapter (OpCos, DrillCos, Service Partners, Well Intervention, HSE)
Financial proposals to reduce overheads (exploit electronic member and data management systems, eliminate USB and physical WorkPack) to retain current fee structure.

GLOBAL CHAPTER UPDATES
North America: Completing revision of DROPS Recommended Practice, developing template for DROPS Shared Lessons and developing minimal standard online training concept
Saudi Arabia and Oman: Awaiting updates, but both groups hosting regular workgroup sessions
Asia: Reviewing opportunities for Virtual Reality immersive training
Canada: Potential support from Energy Safety Canada to establish presence in Alberta tbc
North Caspian: Opportunities to establish working group with NCOC, KPO, TCO and regional representatives from existing DROPS Member organisations.

GUIDANCE UPDATES
Recommended Practice document update will initiate review and update of all Best Practice documents (Red Zones, Survey and Inspection, Checklists). Refreshed Prompt Cards will be developed and issued. All revised documents will be available to web users for download.

TRAINING
Several international projects for DROPS Train the Trainer, with eLearning options being reviewed by both North America and Asia Chapters.

Short movie supplied by BP emphasises the importance of good Red Zone performance and enforcement.

Skandi Caledonia Dropped Object – John Cameron, DOF Management
Overview of recent incident where pennant wire and hook dropped from installation crane during cargo transfer due to failure to check safety gate on main hook throat.

Maintenance to Operations Handover Certificate – Kevin Pope, KCAD
As part of the improvement plan and corrective actions following a HiPo event, procedures were developed and implemented to verify handover of equipment after any intrusive maintenance work had been completed.
